How Does It Work?
The base of the Stepwise Cane™ stays in full contact with the ground throughout someone’s gait cycle and decreases the stress a typical walking cane can put on one’s wrist, elbow, and shoulder. Adjust the cane’s lock to your preferred height, lock the mechanism, put the tread in contact with the ground, and start your journey to improved mobility.
What Does It Do Better Than Other Canes?
The Stepwise Cane™ provides a smooth fluid motion of the base from the first step to the last of user’s gait cycle. Other products, such as your basic single point walking cane like the Hurrycane, do not provide that; they are flat at the bottom. How Was It Made?
The technology was developed over about 5 and half years: first with the University of Dayton Research Institute in Dayton, Ohio. That was followed by three years of development, testing, and computer modeling by Proto Labs in Minnesota. It’s made of a combination of materials (not just plastic, as it supports up to 250 lbs) that provides a strong base to help improve balance, increase mobility, and decrease pain. The Stepwise Cane™ is registered as a Class I Medical Device. The Stepwise Cane™ tread itself helps wick away water/moisture just like a performance tire on a car, making it safer to use in slightly inclement weather.
